Apple Detox Juice
One thing is for sure, it is a challenge to find a detox juice that all of my children enjoy, but it can be done.
We make a lot of soda around here [simple recipe here] and we substitute various juices to ferment. Apple Soda is one of our favorites and it’s super simple.
Apple Soda
Buy 1 gallon of organic, nonGMO apple juice.
Pour out a glass to drink and create a space for fermentation.
Add 1-2 Tbsp of whey, ginger bug, or sauerkraut juice.
Add 1/4 cup raw honey to feed the ferment process.
Close the lid gently and put away in a dark spot.
Check the Apple juice in 3 days. Open the lid very slowly to release air, close it and shake. Do this every couple of days. When you hear the “fsssst” sound, you have soda. Apple takes up a good 5-7 days before it is fermented well.
By the way, when you ferment, it does not irritate or cause yeast issues within the body. The fermentation actually adds good flora to your gut. This enzymatic, non-carbonated soda fizzes because of the fermentation process, NOT from infused carbonation. Therefore, this homemade soda actually helps to digest food for our family.
Now that we have the life-giving soda, let’s begin.
Detox Juice
4 cups Apple Soda
1 cup ice
1 Tbsp grass sprouts and/or we found this or sometimes we find wheat grass in trays from our local grocery
2 tsp Tumeric
We added 1 cup of fresh organic watermelon on hand (optional).
Blend for 2 cycles in a more industrial blender like Blendtec.
Serve and enjoy! A most delicious detox to add good flora in the gut. For more information on a clean gut, check out our other healthy practices with kids here.
