How Our Family Survived Childhood Cancer

How We Got Here

This book has taken three years to become a reality. It has been an adventure to say the least, but we felt it had to be for more than just to “benefit and grow our family character”! So in a white heat, I have written a book and let it sit on the shelf two years for us to heal. So with a couple years to really look back, I thought it would be best to write a little book of highlights [learnings] before I release the full adventure! Life certainly has moments that seem so incredibly unfair, but when you trust you are in the right place, it is empowering!  To appreciate life even when we don’t understand it…and how ultimately events happen to draw us into better people.

We have also been working hard to build a place where orphan children can regularly come and learn how to garden, milk a goat, harvest eggs, and make a healthy, tasty meal. This is our hope! A place that is non-GMO and pesticide free! It is an ordinary, full of life and intentional effort to change the future for the children we can!

We had a lot of digesting to do and a lot of loving to go through, so this farm initiative has been our inspiration [and therapy]. And NOW we are thriving (busy) and working out the little “uglies” that have surfaced along the way. We are cleaning up character flaws and continue to work on ourselves in this short bit of life we have.

We are repeatedly told that our family is “different and amazing” by hospital staff, social workers, biological parents, and friends…but I choose to believe that everyone has goodness in them. Each of us has something wonderful to give and our family chooses to give:

Hope to the hopeless

Love to the unloved and unlove-able

Kindness to the unkind

What will you be known for? We are totally and utterly surrendered to the Most High God who blesses us undeservedly.

So we must bear good fruit. We must be givers and not just takers.
